SERVICES

E-3G Mission and Flight Simulator Training Facility will serve the training requirements of the 552nd Air Control Wing. The masonry building will complement a recently completed, adjacent squadron operations building to enhance the campus feel of Tinker Air Force Base. The building will be oriented to the south in relation to existing parking. New turf and trees will soften the surrounding site, and an informal outdoor gathering area at the front door will serve as a welcoming amenity. The entry will be adjacent a stair and elevator tower that will be the most prominent volume of the building exterior. A profile of an E-3G Sentry will be mounted to the tower to offer a clue as to the building function. The building’s security requirements will not allow the use of windows, but different colors of concrete masonry in concert with a variation in building volumes adds interest to the building facades.

The building entry leads into a lobby that provides access to offices in the “unsecure” area of the building. A suite of offices adjacent the lobby comprise a storm shelter area sized to protect 250 persons in the event of a tornado. Also, the single entry into the “secure” portions of the building is off the lobby.
Most of the building is secure for storage and discussion of classified information as required to support flight training curricula. The secure perimeter is designed for acoustic privacy and access control. The east end of the building is a double height simulator bay for housing three motion simulators. The simulator bay is accessed by two overhead doors adjacent a paved drive to facilitate delivery and maintenance of the simulators. The rest of the building is two stories of classrooms, instructor offices, and specialized training areas.
